Weddings

We are pleased that you are considering to share your marriage vows within the context of the Christian faith at First United Church in White Rock.

We regard Christian marriage to be a deep spiritual union between two people. Your marriage service is based on the Christian understanding of love which involves the complete self-giving of each person to the other. Our ministers are available to you for counsel and assistance both before and after your marriage. The Rev. Joan McMurtry and the Rev. Norman Pettersson are available to conduct your marriage ceremony depending on the date and their availability. The music director, Sheila Miller Bower is usually available to play music.

Reserving Dates and Times: Please make a reservation through the office for the date, time, and location of your marriage ceremony and rehearsal (normally a minimum of 3 months in advance.) Both the Sanctuary and the Lounge are available. The Sanctuary holds up to 400 people and the Lounge holds up to 30 people. As soon as possible, you should arrange an appointment with one of the ministers, who will spend at least an hour with you, planning for your marriage ceremony and rehearsal, music, flowers, etc.

The total cost for conducting a wedding at First United includes use of the sanctuary for the wedding and rehearsal, and the availability of the staff: minister, organist/pianist, and caretaker. It comes to about $675 for non members of the congregation. Members of the congregation who have been financially contributing pay for only the stipends for the staff.
